UNM Health Sciences Center Health Careers Academy summer program: deadline to apply: March 2019 (exact date TBA)

If you're headed into 11th or 12th grade and interested in a health- or science-related career, the Health Careers Academy this summer at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center can help you build the skills you need for academic success and help you explore potential jobs. Enhance your math, science, language and critical thinking skills before your junior or senior year in high school. The HCA is a six-week, non-residential program that's held on the UNM HSC campus in ABO from June through July.

Enjoy a challenging and rewarding program that includes:

  • Up to six weeks of math, science and language instruction
  • ACT preparation and practice exams
  • CPR/First Response certification
  • Presentations from health professionals
  • Service learning/community-based project
  • Sessions on cultural humility
  • Stipend upon completion of the program

PAID summer internships at Presbyterian Hospital (graduating seniors only!)

UNMH Volunteering

Interested in volunteering at UNM Hospital next summer? Students aged 14 - 17 are able to apply, and must make a commitment to volunteer for the summer; you can then continue volunteering during the year, if you want, once you've completed the summer program. You must request an application from UNM's Teen Volunteer Services Department: call 272-2356 and speak with Anna. You'll attend a mandatory orientation in June. On the day of your orientation, you'll bring with you the completed application & consent form signed by parent/guardian. Be sure to make a reservation for the orientation date of your choice.
