Benefits From APS Indian ED

Students may receive reimbursement and/or assistance for the following (2 only):

  • Cap and Gown fees for graduating seniors only ($45 maximum)
  • SAT fees (1 time)
  • ACT fees (1 time)
  • Advanced Placement (AP) exam fees
  • Online core course fees (for courses not offered during the regular school year and/or offered through GradPoint or eCADEMY)
  • College application fees to high school seniors up to a maximum of $100 for the first 50 students who apply this school year.
  • Eyeglasses for those students who qualify under Title 1.

Native American Club @ EHS

All interested students are welcome at Eldorado's Native American Club! Dr. Lawton is the club sponsor. The club meets in her room, A7, every Thursday after school. Learn about and celebrate the diverse Native American cultures of our community.

 

Career Enrichment Center Classes for Native American Students

The Career Enrichment Center (CEC) is located near Mountain Road and I-25. Each high school provides transportation to students to get to their classes.

  • Native American Government/Economics and Native Studies I & II
  • Native American Studies
  • Native American Economics
  • Native American Leadership
  • Navajo I and II
  • Zuni Language I and II
  • Navajo History and Government: This class does NOT count for Government credit for graduation purposes. It is designed to qualify Navajo Nation students for the Chief Manuelito Scholarship.

GradPoint Credit Recovery

GradPoint Online Credit Recovery Program is a support for students in grades 9-12. Students are referred by high school counselors to make up credit towards graduation. GradPoint is for students who need to recover credits in English, U.S. History, World History, Economics, Biology, and Math.

  • Parent/Guardian support is provided for training on technology use, advocacy, consultation, and education navigation.
  • Students enrolled in the Indian Education department can utilize the Gradpoint Online Credit Recovery Program if they need to make up high school credits.

  • Can Freshmen or Sophomores apply? Yes. All high school students can apply. However, priority is given to seniors and juniors, and then sophomores and freshmen.

  • Can I take more than one class per semester? Yes. In GradPoint, students take one course at a time, but once a course is completed, they can start another one. Working at their own pace, students often complete two or more courses per semester.
  • Can I take courses through GradPoint to get ahead? No. GradPoint is a credit recovery program. It is for students needed to retake courses that they did not pass on previous attempts.
  • Is it too late to apply? The GradPoint team considers applications even after the official start date. Please apply and the GradPoint team will work with you on developing an individualized plan.
  • What do I need to do to enroll? Contact your counselor! There is a form for the student's academic counselor to sign and for a parent to sign. The counselor will review your transcript and make recommendations on classes each student needs to graduate.

College Horizons

College Horizons is a wonderful pre-college summer prep program for Native American students who have just completed their 10th or 11th grade year. It typically takes place on college campuses but has gone virtual during COVID.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be American Indian, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian (You will need to provide a copy of relevant state/federal tribal enrollment documentation or from the Ho’oulu Hawaiian Data Center or Office of Hawaiian Affairs – we do not accept birth certificates of a student, parent, or grandparent as proof of enrollment).
  • Be a current sophomore or junior in high school.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (in core academic courses, not electives).
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Submit a completed application packet by the deadline.
  • NEW: Students must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
  • NEW: Students must have access to a device for the duration of the program (i.e. computer, laptop, tablet).
