UNM Health Sciences Center Health Careers Academy summer programs: deadline to apply: March 27, 2019

2 SUMMER MEDICAL PROGRAMS AT UNM:

1) Health Careers Academy Summer Program for High School Students-- Deadline to apply: March 27, 2019:  If you're headed into 11th or 12th grade and interested in a health- or science-related career, the Health Careers Academy at the UNM Health Sciences Center can help you build the skills you need for academic success and help you explore potential jobs. Enhance your math, science, language and critical thinking skills before your junior or senior year in high school. The HCA is a 6-week, non-residential program that's held at UNM HSC campus from June - July. Enjoy a challenging and rewarding program that includes:

  • Up to 6 weeks of math, science and language instruction
  • ACT preparation and practice exams
  • CPR/First Response certification
  • Presentations from health professionals
  • Service learning/ community-based project
  • Cultural humility training
  • Stipend upon completion of the program

2) Undergraduate Health Sciences Enrichment Program (UHSEP): Pre-Med, Pre-College Summer Program-- Deadline to apply: March 27, 2019:

Take part in the Undergraduate Health Sciences Enrichment Program (UHSEP) at the UNM the summer before your freshman year at college. You'll build skills not only for your academic career but your future as a health professional.

During UHSEP's six-week program, you'll gain confidence and a competitive edge in a supportive learning environment staffed by expert instructors. Make connections with your peers while you live and learn on the UNM campus from June - July. Enjoy a challenging and rewarding program that includes:

  • Up to 6 weeks of math, science and language instruction, with the potential to earn college credit
  • College preparation
  • CPR/First response certification
  • Presentations from health professionals
  • Service learning/ community-based project
  • Cultural humility training
  • Housing at the UNM residence halls
  • Meal plan for six weeks
  • Stipend upon completion of the program

UNMH Volunteering

Interested in volunteering at UNM Hospital next summer? Students aged 14 - 17 are able to apply, and must make a commitment to volunteer for the summer; you can then continue volunteering during the year, if you want, once you've completed the summer program. You must request an application from UNM's Teen Volunteer Services Department: call 272-2356 and speak with Anna. You'll attend a mandatory orientation in June. On the day of your orientation, you'll bring with you the completed application & consent form signed by parent/guardian. Be sure to make a reservation for the orientation date of your choice.
