October - December 2019 Scholarship Deadlines

October 6, 2019: Info at AES Scholarship (scroll down). $500. Seniors only. Brief essay on the topic: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?  Submit essay to  There is no application packet for this award. Be sure to include your full name as well as the name of the school you are attending this year and your plans for next year. Details online. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by essay.

DUE DATE: October 5, 2019:  Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards:  Students apply for grants of varying $$$ in several categories: education, business, healthcare & science, media & entertainment, STEM, and community service.  See website for details. Eligibility: Must be graduating in Spring 2020; Must have at least an unweighted 3.0 GPA; Be of Hispanic Heritage (includes Spain, Brazil, Philippines); Planning to enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited higher education institution in the fall directly after HS graduation; If selected, must attend the regional ceremony. Travel to the ceremony will be at the recipient’s expense; Completed online application including a letter of recommendation, transcript and essay questions; Be a Permanent Resident, DACA, U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen.

DUE DATE: Oct. ?, 2019: ACES-NM Young Asian American Youth Award, $250: Open to grades 10 - 12, NM High Schools. 3 to 5 awards will be given. Details and application online. Requires application, official transcript (order from Registrar in Counseling) and letter of support.

DUE DATE: October ?, 2019:  Horatio Alger Scholarship (106 Awards - $25,000).  Information/application online. Seniors only, must be U.S. citizen. Assists students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need ($55,000 or lower), a good academic record (2.0 min.), commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society.

YDI Scholarship - October ?, 2019 (1 Award - $1,000)

DUE DATE: Nov. ?, 2019: Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: open to all HS students with substantial community service/volunteer experience. Apply online here or here. The student application is due Nov. 6, and then the application must be certified by the principal by Nov. 16.  Top honorees earn cash awards and all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C. Qualifying honorees also receive President’s Volunteer Service Awards.

DUE DATE: Dec. ?, 2019: Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship - $2,500.  Seniors only. Applicants to the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program must: Have a demonstrated commitment to community service, outstanding qualities in character, integrity and leadership; be enrolled as a high school senior; reside in one of the communities listed on the program website; Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2020-21 academic year; Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent); Demonstrate financial need. DUE DATE: December ?, 2019: National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship:  Awards: 475 national semifinalists - $2,850 scholarship; 24 national finalists - $5,150 scholarship; 1 national winner - $22,650 scholarship. Seniors who are NHS members only. See website for details and you must contact Ms. Moleres, NHS Sponsor, to apply. Requires application & 3 recommendations.

DUE DATE: Dec. ?, 2019: Foot Locker Student-Athlete Scholarship: seniors only. (20 x $20,000 awarded!)  To be eligible, the applicant must: be entering college in the Fall 2019 as a Freshman at a four-year school for an undergraduate degree; be currently involved in high school sports, intramural sports, or community-based sports; have a minimum GPA of 3.0; be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident (you will be asked to prove citizenship and age if you win); not be an employee, officer or director of Foot Locker, Inc., or any of its subsidiaries, or a member of the immediate family of such an employee, officer or director. They are looking for students who: embody good sportsmanship and strong moral character;  are trusted and respected members of their schools and communities and have built long-term relationships; are passionate and committed to empowering the community in which they live; have made a significant long-term commitment to improving the lives of others; display academic excellence. DUE DATE: December ?, 2019:  AXA Achievement Scholarship. $10,000 for 1 student from NM! Seniors only.  Must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities. Special consideration is given to achievements that empower society to mitigate risk through education and/or action in areas such as financial, environmental, health, safety and/or emergency preparedness. Apply on website here.

January 2020 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: January ?Optimist Club Essay Contest. $2,500. Open to all students younger than age 19 as of Oct. 1, 2019. February 2020 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: Feb. 2020:  Credit Union Association of NM Scholarship: must be senior with 2.8 GPA or higher, and planning to attend college full time in New Mexico starting Fall 2020. Application and details here.

DUE DATE: Feb. 2020:  Aldo Leopold Writing Contest/Scholarship: $800 if in 11th - 12th grade; $300 if in 9th - 10th grade. Write brief essay re: your own water ethic that describes or captures how you think people should relate to water resources on our planet. Details and application on website here.

DUE DATE: Feb. 2020: NM Coalition of Educational Leaders (NMCEL) Scholarship: $3,000 (2 awards). SENIORS ONLY, 3.0 MIN. DUE DATE: Feb. 2020: $1,500 Unigo "Sweet & Simple" Scholarship. Open to ages 13 and up. Submit an online written response to the question: "Not every gift has to be expensive or extravagant. March 2020 Scholarships

DUE DATE: March ? 2020 (must be emailed OR postmarked by this date): NM Education Council Scholarship. (8 awards, $1,000 each.) Seniors only, must attend in-state NM college or university (2-yr. or 4-yr. school). Selection is based on the student's desire to create a better New Mexico through educational attainment, as exemplified through the student's family, school, community, and academic ability, as well as the quality of the required essay. DUE DATE: March ? 2020: Mayflower Society of NM $1,620 Scholarship (seniors & current college students only): requires essay re: Mayflower Compact, resume, transcript & 2 letters of rec. Application available on Mayflower website here. ELDORADO STUDENTS HAVE WON!

DUE DATE: March ? 2020: Jiffy Lube Teen Driver Scholarship Program. 1 overall $5,000 award; 2 finalist $1,500 awards. Two categories: licensed teen drivers and students in driver's ed. DUE DATE: March ?, 2020: Kirtland Spouses Scholarship. $$$ value to be decided. Seniors only, starting college or trade school in Fall 2020, must be a dependent of Armed Forces personnel assigned to Kirtland Air Force Base or on remote assignment. Instructions and application here.

DUE DATE: March 2?, 2020: "Always an Eagle" Scholarship, sponsored by EHS Class of 1981: $500.81 to one EHS senior male & 1 senior female. Requirements: 2.5 GPA, plans to further your education after HS, strong attendance record. Must complete application (available here) and bring it, along with 250-word (or less) essay re: how your experience at EHS has encouraged you to advance your education; also requires letter of recommendation from teacher re: how you embody one or more of these qualities: respectful, responsible, dependable, actively involved, engaged/take initiative. Bring application package to Ms. Velhagen by March deadline.

DUE DATE: March ?, 2020: Bryan Cline Memorial Soccer Scholarship, $800. Senior varsity soccer players only.  Bring this complete application packet to Ms. Velhagen by March 25 -- for committee judging!  Do NOT turn in to Principal Sandoval or mail to Albuquerque Community Foundation. One male & one female EHS varsity soccer player will be awarded this scholarship!

DUE DATE: March ? 2019: Quest Bridge College Prep Scholars:  JUNIORS with outstanding grades & test scores + lower income backgrounds (typically households earning less than $65,000/yr. for a family of four, and often less). DUE DATE: March 2019: NM Engineering Foundation Scholarships: amounts & requirements vary. See website for details and applications. READ THROUGH WEBSITE CAREFULLY! The NM Engineering Foundation offers both university and high school scholarships. University scholarships are primarily offered in the spring and are designated for students majoring in engineering, math, or science at a New Mexico college or university. High school scholarships are offered in the spring and are designated for graduating high school seniors at New Mexico high schools who plan to pursue undergraduate degrees in engineering, math, or science.

DUE DATE: March ?, 2020: NM Federation of Republican Women Scholarship: $1,500 to senior female only.  Student or parent must be registered Republican. Requires application, letter of interest, resume, 2 letters of reference.  Application & details should be available here in 2019.

DUE DATE: March ?, 2020: The Margaret E. Carson Scholarship from the Albuquerque Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.: seniors only, need-based scholarship for students of color, must attend an in-state college. April 2020 Scholarships

DUE DATE (to Ms. Velhagen): April ? 2020. $2,000 (over 4 years). Manuel Lujan Scholarship, for Seniors attending public college in-state. Only way to apply: use this application form (click here) or get paper copy from Ms. Velhagen, and be sure to turn in to Ms. Velhagen by April -- deadline set by Ms. Velhagen! One EHS student WILL be awarded this scholarship!

DUE DATE: April ?, 2020: Koffler Art Scholarship. $1,000. For seniors only, who plan to pursue a visual art career. Portfolio and application required. See Ms. Velhagen for application & guidance. One EHS student will be awarded this scholarship!

DUE DATE: April ?, 2020Rich Ford Drive for Your Dream FREE CAR scholarship! APS Seniors only. Rich Ford is partnering with APS to award a new 2019 Ford Fiesta to a lucky graduating senior student senior!  The project is called “DRIVE FOR YOUR DREAM,” and is a video contest for all graduating seniors who attend attending an APS high school.  It’s simple to enter the video contest; Rich Ford has a link on their Facebook page,, where the graduating student can upload a 30 to 60 second video.  The video must be creative, fun, and satisfy a few guidelines to be eligible to win.  A complete set of rules, release forms, and instructions are available on Rich Ford’s Facebook page.  More details at this website

DATE: April ? 2020: Camilla Rowe Memorial Scholarship. $1,200. For seniors only who attended Eisenhower MS for at least 1 year. Camilla Rowe was a beloved teacher at EMS whose teaching philosophy emphasized to her students "to question, seek answers, and question again in the search of Truth".  Her family established this scholarship in her honor. DUE DATE: April ? 2020.  Eldorado Go Getter Scholarship. $1,000. Seniors only. Former EHS student Marques Lopez wants to give back to the place that helped teach him the value of setting & achieving goals. Requires 2.8 GPA or higher, and "financial need". DUE DATE: April ?, 2020: Charlie & Kathy Barnhart and Ken Hayes, Jr. Manufactured Housing Association Scholarship Fund through Albuquerque Community Foundation. Up to $1,000 assistance to NM graduating high school seniors residing in a manufactured (mobile) home. GPA minimum: 3.0.

DUE DATE: April ?, 2020: Youth in Foster Care Scholarship Fund: Assistance to young adults who have been in the New Mexico foster care system who want to develop a marketable skill or continue their education at a post-secondary school.

DUE DATE: April ?, 2020: James Ledwith Memorial Scholarship Fund: Assistance​ to students for post-secondary education in pursuit of a life dream with hope, faith and courage in spite of facing hardship. This scholarship is for students who are pursuing a professional goal and have faced or facing adversity.

DUE DATE: April ?, 2020: Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque Scholarship Fund:  Assistance to graduating students with strong community service experience and strong academic records from an Albuquerque metro area high school, who are planning a career in child development and/or teaching.

DUE DATE: April ?, 2020: Woodcock Family Education Fund: Assistance to Albuquerque metro area high school graduating seniors of exceptional promise in the fields of science and math.

May 2020 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: May ?: Hurt Call Bert/Bert Parnell Distracted Driving Scholarship: First Prize: $2,500; Second Prize: $1,500; Third Prize: $1,000.  Open to ALL high school students!  This is a local scholarship, so odds are GOOD! Details and application at HurtCallBert Scholarship website.

DUE DATE: May ?: Olson/Taylor/Koleske Science & Engineering Scholarship: $3,000, seniors only. Requires 1 additional science course beyond that required for graduation, and be planning to major in a physical science or engineering field in college. Details and application on website.

DUE DATE: May ?: Kirtland Federal Credit Union Club F.I.T. scholarships (total of 3: $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000). Seniors only; must be a member, child, or grandchild of a member in good standing with Kirtland Federal Credit Union. Must be accepted to an accredited 2- or 4-year institution and attending college for the first time. Scholarship must be used exclusively to pay the tuition or associated costs of named winner only at an accredited 2- or 4- year institution. June - Sept. 2020 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: June ? 2020: SCW DREAMers Scholarship. $2,500. Open to any HS senior who immigrated to the U.S. before age 16 and has lived here for at least 5 years. More information and application online.

DUE DATE:  June ?, 2020: Andrew Piech Memorial Scholarship through the Albuquerque Community Foundation. Assistance up to $2,200 to students in the field of Automotive Technology and related Applied Technologies. Students must pursue a degree or certificate from a nonprofit, public automotive or technical vocational institution including community colleges.

DUE DATE: June ?, 2020: David R. Woodling Memorial Scholarship through the Albuquerque Community Foundation. Up to $4,600 in assistance to student(s) attending an accredited nonprofit or public educational institution in pursuit of a certificate or degree in a metals technology program with a concentration in machine tool technology and welding.

DUE DATE: June ? 2020. Abbott & Fenner Scholarship Program.  $1,000. Application process: submit an essay on the topic that appears on the scholarship page of our web site.

DUE DATE: June ? 2020. $1,500 (with possible additional $1,000 - $3,000). C & D Scholarship. open to any graduating senior with a GPA of NO GREATER THAN a 2.49! Requires recommendation from counselor or teacher. Application to come.

Open to students aged 13 or older.  Submit an online written response to the question: "OMG... finding and applying for scholarships is serious business, but it's time to lighten things up a little. We don't want to know why you deserve $1,500 or how great your grades are, we simply want to LOL. Describe an incident in your life, funny or embarrassing (fact or fiction), and make us laugh!"
