Daniels Fund Scholarship

The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding minority HS seniors from low-income households. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to 300 of these student leaders, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential. To learn more, watch this video.

Scholars receive funding for the full cost of attendance* that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university.

*Cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, room, board, books, and transportation, and may include other personal costs.

To apply, students must be: HS senior; from at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/ Alaska Native (proof of tribal enrollment required), Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American; Pell Grant-eligible (determined through FAFSA); US citizen, national, or permanent resident; in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. May 2021 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: May 22, 2022 $1,000. Seniors only. Neil Isbin was a lifelong human rights activist who worked tirelessly for equality and justice, gay and lesbian rights, affordable health care for all New Mexicans, tax fairness for working families, and public employee collective bargaining. The Neil Isbin $1,000 scholarship toward college tuition is awarded annually and is administered by the Jewish Community Foundation of New Mexico (JCF). Eligibility: open to all Albuquerque-area high school seniors who (1) have demonstrated achievements or ongoing volunteer work supporting human rights and human dignity, and (2) will be enrolling in an accredited nonprofit college or university in the fall. There are no restrictions on eligibility based on race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or disability status. DUE DATE TBA: Kirtland Federal Credit Union Club F.I.T. scholarships (total of 3: $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000). Seniors only; must be a member, child, or grandchild of a member in good standing with Kirtland Federal Credit Union. DUE DATE:  June 3, 2021: Andrew Piech Memorial Scholarship through the Albuquerque Community Foundation. Assistance up to $2,200 to students in the field of Automotive Technology and related Applied Technologies. Students must pursue a degree or certificate from a nonprofit, public automotive or technical vocational institution including community colleges.

DUE DATE: June 3, 2021: David R. Woodling Memorial Scholarship through the Albuquerque Community Foundation. Up to $4,600 in assistance to student(s) attending an accredited nonprofit or public educational institution in pursuit of a certificate or degree in a metals technology program with a concentration in machine tool technology and welding.

DUE DATE: June 3, 2021: Youth in Foster Care Scholarship Fund through Albuquerque Community Foundation: Assistance (one or two awards up to $1,000) to young adults who have been in the New Mexico foster care system who want to develop a marketable skill or continue their education at a post-secondary school.

DUE DATE: June 14, 2021Sussman-Miller Educational Assistance Fund through Albuquerque Community Foundation. $500 to $2,000 assistance to students to further their education in an undergraduate program at public schools IN NEW MEXICO who need financial assistance to address the "gap" in financial aid packages. *PLEASE NOTE: two different receipt deadlines/categories for Sussman-Miller: 1) deadline for students who will attend out-of-state schools or in-state private schools: April 2021; 2) Deadline for students will attend New Mexico state public schools: June 2021.

DUE DATE: October 2021: Info at AES Scholarship $500. Seniors only. Brief essay on the topic: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?  Submit essay to scholarships@aesengineers.com  There is no application packet for this award. Be sure to include your full name as well as the name of the school you are attending this year and your plans for next year. DUE DATE: October 2021: ACES-NM Young Asian American Youth Award, $250: Open to grades 10 - 12, NM High Schools. 3 to 5 awards will be given. Details and application online. Requires application, official transcript and letter of support.

DUE DATE: October 2021:  Horatio Alger Scholarship (106 Awards - $25,000).  Information/application online. Seniors only, must be U.S. citizen. Assists students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need ($55,000 or lower), a good academic record (2.0 min.), commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society.

NOVEMBER 2021 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: Nov. 2021: Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: open to all HS students with substantial community service/volunteer experience. Apply online here or here. The student application is due Nov. ?, and then the application must be certified by the principal by Nov. ?.  Top honorees earn cash awards and all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C. December 2021 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: December 2021:  Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards:  Students apply for grants of varying $$$ in several categories: education, business, healthcare & science, media & entertainment, STEM, and community service.  See website for details. Eligibility: must be graduating in Spring 2022; must have at least unweighted 3.0 GPA; be of Hispanic Heritage (includes Spain, Brazil, Philippines); planning to enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited higher education institution in the fall directly after HS graduation; If selected, must attend the regional ceremony (if safely possible). Travel to the ceremony will be at the recipient’s expense; Completed online application including a letter of recommendation, transcript and essay questions; Be a Permanent Resident, DACA, U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen.

DUE DATE: December 2021: National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship:  Awards: 475 national semifinalists - $2,850 scholarship; 24 national finalists - $5,150 scholarship; 1 national winner - $22,650 scholarship. DUE DATE: December 2021:  AXA Achievement Scholarship. $10,000 for 1 student from NM! Seniors only.  Must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities. Special consideration is given to achievements that empower society to mitigate risk through education and/or action in areas such as financial, environmental, health, safety and/or emergency preparedness. Apply on website here.

January 2022 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: January 2022: GE-Reagan Scholarship. Seniors only. Up to $40,000! The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education. DUE DATE: January 2022: Foot Locker Student-Athlete Scholarship. Seniors only. (20 x $20,000 awarded!)  To be eligible, the applicant must: be entering college in Fall 2021 as a Freshman at a four-year school for an undergraduate degree; be currently involved in high school sports, intramural sports, or community-based sports; have a minimum GPA of 3.0; be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident (you will be asked to prove citizenship and age if you win); not be an employee, officer or director of Foot Locker, Inc., or any of its subsidiaries, or a member of the immediate family of such an employee, officer or director. They are looking for students who: embody good sportsmanship and strong moral character;  are trusted and respected members of their schools and communities and have built long-term relationships; are passionate and committed to empowering the community in which they live; have made a significant long-term commitment to improving the lives of others; display academic excellence. Diane Gillen Future Educator Scholarship: application here. Perfect for seniors who plan to go into teaching. Requires online application with brief question-essays, along with the following documentation: current high school transcript, letter of interest, resume, letter of recommendation either from a school principal, teacher, counselor, mentor or coach, and (optional) any recognitions or awards you have received, as a result of your achievements.

February 2022 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: Feb. 2022: NM Association of School Business Officials Scholarship: Seniors only, who will ATTEND A NM COLLEGE. $1500 or $2500 (7-10 scholarships awarded!)  Apply hereRequirements: complete scholarship application through Reviewr which includes the following: a) Demonstrate strong academic achievement with a 3.0 GPA or better and submit a copy of the following documents: unofficial high school transcript & ACT and/or SAT scores. b) Submit a typed essay (double spaced and no longer than two pages in length). The essays will be scored according to the following criteria: Details of your plans for attending college and pursuing a college degree; Information on how the scholarship will help you achieve your educational goals; Information demonstrating your financial need; Information about your service to the community or school district if any. c) Submit two letters of recommendation written by a schoolteacher, staff member, or school administrator. (**Must be on school letterhead**) 2. A graduating senior from an accredited public or charter high school in the State of New Mexico. 3. The school district or charter high school is a current member of NMASBO. 4. Enroll and attend a college or university of your choice in the State of New Mexico as a full-time student (12 or more semester hours/credits). 5. Available to all New Mexico High School Seniors graduating after the 2020-21 academic year with no emphasis placed on ethnicity or gender.

DUE DATE: Feb., 2022Optimist Club Essay Contest. $2,500 (if you win at the local level and then at District level). Open to all students younger than age 19 as of Oct. 1, 2020. Essay topic (700-800 words): "Reaching Your Dreams By Choosing Optimism". DUE DATE: Feb. 2022: $500. Seniors only. Organ Transplant Awareness Program (OTAP) Scholarship Opportunity for High School Seniors! Two $500 scholarships will be awarded by OTAP to NM high school seniors in memory of Betty Montoya (kidney recipient) and Jaime Munoz (double lung recipient). OTAP scholarship program promotes organ and tissue donation as an important social responsibility and assists NM youth with higher education. DUE DATE: Feb. 2022: NM Coalition of Educational Leaders (NMCEL) Scholarship: $3,000 (2 awards). SENIORS ONLY, 3.0 MIN. GPA, PREFERENCE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO ARE CONSIDERING A MAJOR IN EDUCATION (INCLUDING. TEACHING, COUNSELING).  Requires application form, essay and 2 letters of reference. March 2022 Scholarships

DUE DATE: March 2022: Project Yellow Light. $2,000. Open to Juniors & Seniors (& college students). Create a billboard design to warn your peers of the dangers of texting and driving. DUE DATE: March 2022: Kirtland Spouses Scholarship. $$$ value to be decided: The number of scholarships awarded each year and the amount of each scholarship will vary based on funds available, the number of applicants, and the quality of applications. Seniors only, starting college or trade school in Fall 2021, must be a dependent of Armed Forces personnel assigned to Kirtland Air Force Base or on remote assignment. April 2022 Scholarships

DUE DATE: April, 2022: Bryan Cline Memorial Soccer Scholarship, $800. Senior varsity soccer players only.  One male & one female EHS varsity soccer player will be awarded this scholarship! Application online here.

DUE DATE: April, 2022. $2,000 (over 4 years). Manuel Lujan Scholarship, for Seniors attending public college in-stateApplication online here. One EHS student WILL be awarded this scholarship!

DUE DATE: April, 2022: NM Manufactured Housing Association Scholarship Fund through Albuquerque Community Foundation. Up to $1,000 assistance to NM graduating high school seniors residing in a manufactured (mobile) home. GPA minimum: 3.0.

DUE DATE: April, 2022: James Ledwith Memorial Scholarship Fund: One or more scholarships of up to $2,000. The James Ledwith Memorial Scholarship Fund was established within Albuquerque Community Foundation by family and friends in 2011. This scholarship program will annually award one or more scholarships up to $2,000 to high school graduates from Albuquerque who continue to pursue a “life dream”/professional or educational goal in spite of facing extraordinary life challenges. The recipient will be a graduating high school senior from the Albuquerque Metro Area (Bernalillo, Valencia, Torrance & Sandoval Counties) who has overcome their personal adversity and demonstrates:

  • Hope, faith and courage
  • Thoughtfulness and service to others
  • Living life, pursing dreams and enabling one’s self

The scholarship is to be used for post-secondary education at an accredited nonprofit or public educational institution in pursuit of a “life dream” and/or professional goal. The school may be a two- or four-year college or university and the student must attend full time.  The applicant needs to demonstrate that he/she is capable of succeeding in that educational pursuit and that this scholarship will help them in this endeavor.

DUE DATE: April, 2022: Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque Scholarship Fund through Albuquerque Community Foundation: Assistance to graduating students with strong community service experience and strong academic records from an Albuquerque metro area high school, who are planning a career in child development and/or teaching.

DUE DATE: April, 2022: $10,000! Seniors only. Woodcock Family Education Fund through Albuquerque Community Foundation: Assistance to Albuquerque metro area high school graduating seniors of exceptional promise in the fields of science and math.

DUE DATE: April, 2022: Jiffy Lube Teen Driver Scholarship Program. 1 overall $5,000 award; 2 finalist $1,500 awards. Two categories: licensed teen drivers and students in driver's ed. DATE: April 2022: "Always an Eagle" Scholarship, sponsored by EHS Class of 1981: $5,000.81 to UP TO TWO EHS seniors. Requirements: 2.5 GPA, plans to further your education after HS, strong attendance record. Must complete & submit these 3 items to velhagen@aps.edu:

DUE DATE: April, 2022: Hispanic Seniors only. $1,000. 2021 ABQ Hispano Chamber of Commerce Scholarships. Scholarship Objective: to provide recognition for educational achievement and leadership qualities to graduating New Mexico high school seniors that will be attending an institution of higher learning. Eligibility: Seniors graduating in the current school year and planning to enroll in an institution of higher learning the full 2022-23 academic year. NM residents with a 2.5 GPA or higher; all students regardless of documentation status are eligible. Scholarship Committee considerations: educational achievement, leadership qualities, letters of recommendation, and written essay. DUE DATE: April, 2022Sussman-Miller Educational Assistance Fund through Albuquerque Community Foundation. $500 to $2,000 assistance to students to further their education in an undergraduate program OUT-OF-STATE OR AT IN-STATE PRIVATE COLLEGES*, who need financial assistance to address the ‘gap’ in financial aid packages. *PLEASE NOTE: two different receipt deadlines/categories for Sussman-Miller: 1) Deadline for students who will attend out-of-state schools or in-state private schools: April 2022; 2) Deadline for students will attend NM state public schools: June 2022

DATE: April 16, 2021: Camilla Rowe Memorial Scholarship. $2,000. For seniors only who ATTENDED EISENHOWER MS for at least 1 year. Camilla Rowe was a beloved teacher at EMS whose teaching philosophy emphasized to her students "to question, seek answers, and question again in the search of Truth".  Her family established this scholarship in her honor. Requires application and essay (400-500 words) on topic to be announced. Submit essay & application via email to: camillarowescholarship@gmail.com. MANY EHS STUDENTS HAVE WON THIS!

DUE DATE: April, 2022: Koffler Art Scholarship. $1,000. For EHS seniors only, who plan to pursue a career in the arts, including visual arts, film, architecture/interior design, music, fashion. Portfolio and application required: application here. Please submit portfolio & application via email to Ms. Velhagen: velhagen@aps.edu. Contact Ms. Velhagen for guidance. One EHS senior WILL be awarded this scholarship!

DUE DATE: April 2022: Burqueños for Education and Empowerment (BEE) Scholarships is a non-profit whose goal is to provide college scholarships to students of New Mexico to increase access to higher education. BEE Scholarships has a particular focus on students that are typically ignored for most other scholarships. These students may have experienced academic and/or personal struggles early on in their high school career, but turned things around. Due to overcoming certain obstacles while in school, these students are often ignored for scholarships due to a lower GPA. BEE Scholarships works to remove these barriers and provide scholarships for these particular students that may have struggled at first, but demonstrated growth, maturity, and an improved sense of academic admiration. Though not reflected solely in GPA, these traits are highlighted in volunteering opportunities they participated in, improved GPA, and are expressed in their personal statements in the scholarship application. DUE DATE: April 2022: NM Engineering Foundation Scholarships: amounts & requirements vary. See NM Engineering Website for details and applications. READ THROUGH WEBSITE CAREFULLY! The NM Engineering Foundation offers both university and high school scholarships. University scholarships are primarily offered in the spring and are designated for students majoring in engineering, math, or science at a New Mexico college or university. Scholarships are also designated for graduating NM high school seniors who plan to pursue undergraduate degrees in engineering, math, or science.

DUE DATE: April, 2022: Eldorado Go Getter Scholarship. $2,500. Seniors only. EHS graduate Marques Lopez wants to give back to the place that helped teach him the value of setting & achieving goals. Requires 2.8 GPA or higher, and "financial need". Application here! Follow instructions on application and send your app via email as directed.  Please note that it's up to you to describe your "financial need". You don't have to be on Free/Reduced Lunch or submit FAFSA results. One EHS student WILL be awarded this $2,500 scholarship!

DUE DATE: April, 2022. APS Foundation Varsity Scholarship Entry Form: seniors only, apply to win one of five $1,000 scholarships! Apply up to 10 x in 10 different categories! 

DUE DATE: April, 2022. Kirtland Federal Credit Union "Club F.I.T." Scholarship: awards from $1,000-$2,000, seniors only:  To enter, submit by email a 500-700 word essay on the topic: “Many graduating seniors will receive their diploma having never stepped foot in their high schools during their senior year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What impact did the COVID-19 pandemic have on you as a high school senior, and how do you think your experience will shape your plans for college and, eventually, your career?” To be eligible, applicants must be accepted to a two- or four-year college and enroll in the Fall 2022 semester. Applicants should be members of Kirtland FCU or sponsored by a current member. Submit essay along with required documents and paperwork to scholarship@kirtlandfcu.org

DUE DATE TBA (April - June 2022); Duck Tape "Stuck on Prom" contest: make your prom dress/tux out of duct tape and win up to $10,000! Information and application online.

DUE DATE: May 2022: CGCS-Bernard Harris Scholarship.  $5,000.  Open to African American and Hispanic seniors who plan to pursue college studies in one of the STEM-related fields. Application here.

DUE DATE May 2022:  Olson/Taylor/Koleske Science & Engineering Scholarship: $3,000, seniors only. Requires 1 additional science course beyond that required for graduation, and be planning to major in a physical science or engineering field in college. Details and application on website.
