Scholars receive funding for the full cost of attendance* that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university.

To apply, students must be: HS senior; from at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/ Alaska Native (proof of tribal enrollment required), Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American; Pell Grant-eligible (determined through FAFSA); US citizen, national, or permanent resident; in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. DUE DATE: October 2020: Info at AES Scholarship (scroll down). $500. Seniors only. Brief essay on the topic: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?  Submit essay to scholarships@aesengineers.com  There is no application packet for this award. Be sure to include your full name as well as the name of the school you are attending this year and your plans for next year. Details online. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by essay.

DUE DATE: Oct. ?, 2020: ACES-NM Young Asian American Youth Award, $250: Open to grades 10 - 12, NM High Schools. 3 to 5 awards will be given. Details and application online. Requires application, official transcript (order from Registrar in Counseling) and letter of support.

DUE DATE: October 26, 2020:  Horatio Alger Scholarship (106 Awards - $25,000).  Information/application online. Seniors only, must be U.S. citizen. Assists students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need ($55,000 or lower), a good academic record (2.0 min.), commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society.

DUE DATE: Nov. 2020: Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: open to all HS students with substantial community service/volunteer experience. Apply online here or here. The student application is due Nov. 6, and then the application must be certified by the principal by Nov. 16.  Top honorees earn cash awards and all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C. Qualifying honorees also receive President’s Volunteer Service Awards.

December 2020 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: December 6, 2020:  Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards:  Students apply for grants of varying $$$ in several categories: education, business, healthcare & science, media & entertainment, STEM, and community service.  See website for details. Eligibility: Must be graduating in Spring 2020; Must have at least an unweighted 3.0 GPA; Be of Hispanic Heritage (includes Spain, Brazil, Philippines); Planning to enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited higher education institution in the fall directly after HS graduation; If selected, must attend the regional ceremony. Travel to the ceremony will be at the recipient’s expense; Completed online application including a letter of recommendation, transcript and essay questions; Be a Permanent Resident, DACA, U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen.

DUE DATE: Dec. 2020: Look Twice, Save A Life Scholarship - (1 Award - $1,000). See website here for details and application. 

DUE DATE: Dec. 2020: Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship - $2,500.  Seniors only. Applicants to the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program must: Have a demonstrated commitment to community service, outstanding qualities in character, integrity and leadership; be enrolled as a high school senior; reside in one of the communities listed on the program website; Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2021-22 academic year; Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent); Demonstrate financial need. DUE DATE: December 2020: National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship:  Awards: 475 national semifinalists - $2,850 scholarship; 24 national finalists - $5,150 scholarship; 1 national winner - $22,650 scholarship. Seniors who are NHS members only. See website for details and you must contact Ms. Moleres, NHS Sponsor, to apply. Requires application & 3 recommendations.

DUE DATE: Dec. 2020 (to be nominated; Jan. to complete application): Foot Locker Student-Athlete Scholarship: seniors only. (20 x $20,000 awarded!)  To be eligible, the applicant must: be entering college in  Fall 2021 as a Freshman at a four-year school for an undergraduate degree; be currently involved in high school sports, intramural sports, or community-based sports; have a minimum GPA of 3.0; be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident (you will be asked to prove citizenship and age if you win); not be an employee, officer or director of Foot Locker, Inc., or any of its subsidiaries, or a member of the immediate family of such an employee, officer or director. They are looking for students who: embody good sportsmanship and strong moral character;  are trusted and respected members of their schools and communities and have built long-term relationships; are passionate and committed to empowering the community in which they live; have made a significant long-term commitment to improving the lives of others; display academic excellence. DUE DATE: December 2020:  AXA Achievement Scholarship. $10,000 for 1 student from NM! Seniors only.  Must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities. Special consideration is given to achievements that empower society to mitigate risk through education and/or action in areas such as financial, environmental, health, safety and/or emergency preparedness. Apply on website here.

January 2021 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: January 2021:  Optimist Club Oratorical (speech) Contest: open to ALL students (no minimum age limit) who haven't turned 19 as of Oct. 1, 2020. Compete in a speech contest at several levels for college scholarships of $2,500/$1,500/$1,000. Topic TBA. See Ms. Velhagen for entry form and very specific guidelines; must fill out detailed application and provide either passport or birth certificate as proof of age. AN ELDORADO STUDENT WON $2,500 in 2018!

DUE DATE: January 2021: DECA Scholarships. Must be an active DECA member. Information on website here! 

DUE DATE: January 2021:  Coolidge Scholars: JUNIORS ONLY!!  Full-ride scholarship that can be used at any accredited college or university. For juniors with excellent academics who are interested in public policy. Application and details on Coolidge Scholars website here.

February 2021 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE: Feb. 2021Optimist Club Essay Contest. $2,500 (if progress from local level to District level). Open to all students younger than age 19 as of Oct. 1, 2020. Essay Topic (700-800 words) TBA. Must fill out application and provide passport or birth certificate as proof of age. See Ms. Velhagen for details and use this paper application. ELDORADO STUDENTS HAVE WON $2,500!

DUE DATE: Feb. 2021:  Aldo Leopold Writing Contest/Scholarship: $800 if in 11th - 12th grade; $300 if in 9th - 10th grade. Write brief essay. Details and application here.

DUE DATE: Feb. 2021: NM Coalition of Educational Leaders (NMCEL) Scholarship: $3,000 (2 awards). SENIORS ONLY, 3.0 MIN. GPA, PREFERENCE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO ARE CONSIDERING A MAJOR IN EDUCATION (INCLUDING. TEACHING, COUNSELING).  Requires application form, essay and 2 letters of reference. DUE DATE: Feb. 2021:  Credit Union Association of NM Scholarship: must be senior with 2.8 GPA or higher, and planning to attend college full time in New Mexico starting Fall 2021. Application and details here.

March 2021 Scholarships

DUE DATE: March 2021: Mayflower Society of NM $1,620 Scholarship (seniors & current college students only): requires essay re: Mayflower Compact, resume, transcript & 2 letters of rec. Application available on Mayflower Society Website. ELDORADO STUDENTS HAVE WON!

DUE DATE: March 2021: Jiffy Lube Teen Driver Scholarship Program. 1 overall $5,000 award; 2 finalist $1,500 awards. Two categories: licensed teen drivers and students in driver's ed. Simple application and 500-word essay re: "What Drives You?"! Apply on Jiffy Lube website here.  ELDORADO STUDENTS HAVE WON! Also, the high school that submits the most essays wins $500 for the school!

DUE DATE: March 2021: NM Federation of Republican Women Scholarship: $1,500 to senior female only.  Student or parent must be registered Republican. Requires application, letter of interest, resume, 2 letters of reference.  Application & details here.

DUE DATE: March 2021: Kirtland Spouses Scholarship. $$$ value to be decided. Seniors only, starting college or trade school in Fall 2021, must be a dependent of Armed Forces personnel assigned to Kirtland Air Force Base or on remote assignment. Instructions and application here.

April 2021 Scholarships

DUE DATE: April 2021: NMEAF FAFSA Completion Scholarship. Seniors only who have completed the FAFSA, apply here for a $500 scholarship drawing that's only open to NM students!

DUE DATE: April 2021: Burqueños for Education and Empowerment (BEE) Scholarships is a non-profit whose goal is to provide college scholarships to students of New Mexico to increase access to higher education. BEE Scholarships has a particular focus on students that are typically ignored for most other scholarships. These students may have experienced academic and/or personal struggles early on in their high school career, but turned things around. Due to overcoming certain obstacles while in school, these students are often ignored for scholarships due to a lower GPA. BEE Scholarships works to remove these barriers and provide scholarships for these particular students that may have struggled at first, but demonstrated growth, maturity, and an improved sense of academic admiration. Though not reflected solely in GPA, these traits are highlighted in volunteering opportunities they participated in, improved GPA, and are expressed in their personal statements in the scholarship application. DUE DATE: April 2021: Toyota HS Scholarship Challenge: $2,000 scholarship (a total of 30 scholarships will be awarded!). Public school seniors only in ABQ, Rio Rancho & Santa Fe, min. 3.4 GPA. DUE DATE: April 2021: CGCS-Bernard Harris Scholarship.  $5,000.  Open to African American and Hispanic graduating seniors who plan to pursue college studies in one of the STEM-related fields. Application here.

DATE: April 2021: "Always an Eagle" Scholarship, sponsored by EHS Class of 1981: $500.81 to one EHS senior male & 1 senior female. Requirements: 2.5 GPA, plans to further your education after HS, strong attendance record. Must complete & submit these 3 items to velhagen@aps.edu:

DUE DATE: April 2021: NM Engineering Foundation Scholarships: amounts & requirements vary. See NM Engineering Website for details and applications. READ THROUGH WEBSITE CAREFULLY! The NM Engineering Foundation offers both university and high school scholarships. University scholarships are primarily offered in the spring and are designated for students majoring in engineering, math, or science at a New Mexico college or university. Scholarships are also designated for graduating NM high school seniors who plan to pursue undergraduate degrees in engineering, math, or science.

DUE DATE: April 2021: Bryan Cline Memorial Soccer Scholarship, $800. Senior varsity soccer players only.  One male & one female EHS varsity soccer player will be awarded this scholarship! Begin application online at Albuquerque Community Foundation's website here.

DUE DATE: April 2021. $2,000 (over 4 years). Manuel Lujan Scholarship, for Seniors attending public college in-state.Begin application online at Albuquerque Community Foundation's website here. One EHS student WILL be awarded this scholarship!

DUE DATE: April 2021: Charlie & Kathy Barnhart and Ken Hayes, Jr. Manufactured Housing Association Scholarship Fund through Albuquerque Community Foundation. Up to $1,000 assistance to NM graduating high school seniors residing in a manufactured (mobile) home. GPA minimum: 3.0.

DUE DATE: April 2021: James Ledwith Memorial Scholarship Fund: Assistance​ to students for post-secondary education in pursuit of a life dream with hope, faith and courage in spite of facing hardship. This scholarship is for students who are pursuing a professional goal and have faced or facing adversity.

DUE DATE: April 2021: Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque Scholarship Fund:  Assistance to graduating students with strong community service experience and strong academic records from an Albuquerque metro area high school, who are planning a career in child development and/or teaching.

DUE DATE: April 2021: Woodcock Family Education Fund: Assistance to Albuquerque metro area high school graduating seniors of exceptional promise in the fields of science and math.

DUE DATE: April 2021: Youth in Foster Care Scholarship Fund: Assistance to young adults who have been in the New Mexico foster care system who want to develop a marketable skill or continue their education at a post-secondary school.

DUE DATE: April 2021: David R. Woodling Memorial Scholarship through the Albuquerque Community Foundation. Up to $4,600 in assistance to student(s) attending an accredited nonprofit or public educational institution in pursuit of a certificate or degree in a metals technology program with a concentration in machine tool technology and welding.

DUE DATE:  April 2021: Andrew Piech Memorial Scholarship through the Albuquerque Community Foundation. Assistance up to $2,200 to students in the field of Automotive Technology and related Applied Technologies. Students must pursue a degree or certificate from a nonprofit, public automotive or technical vocational institution including community colleges.

DATE: April 2021: Camilla Rowe Memorial Scholarship. $1,200. For seniors only who ATTENDED EISENHOWER MS for at least 1 year. Camilla Rowe was a beloved teacher at EMS whose teaching philosophy emphasized to her students "to question, seek answers, and question again in the search of Truth".  Her family established this scholarship in her honor. DUE DATE: April 2021Sussman-Miller Educational Assistance Fund through Albuquerque Community Foundation. $500 to $2,000 assistance to students to further their education in an undergraduate program OUT-OF-STATE OR AT IN-STATE PRIVATE COLLEGES*, who need financial assistance to address the ‘gap’ in financial aid packages. *PLEASE NOTE: two different receipt deadlines/categories for Sussman-Miller: 1) Deadline for students who will attend out-of-state schools or in-state private schools: April 2021; 2) Deadline for students will attend NM state public schools: June 2021

DUE DATE: April 2021.  Eldorado Go Getter Scholarship. $2,500. Seniors only. Former EHS student Marques Lopez wants to give back to the place that helped teach him the value of setting & achieving goals. Requires 2.8 GPA or higher, and "financial need". May 2021 Scholarship Deadlines

DUE DATE TBA:  Olson/Taylor/Koleske Science & Engineering Scholarship: $3,000, seniors only. Requires 1 additional science course beyond that required for graduation, and be planning to major in a physical science or engineering field in college. Details and application on website.

DUE DATE TBA: $1,000. Seniors only. Herb & Kathie Isbin established this scholarship fund in memory of their son, Neil. Neil Isbin was a lifelong human rights activist who worked tirelessly for equality and justice, gay and lesbian rights, affordable health care for all New Mexicans, tax fairness for working families, and public employee collective bargaining. The Neil Isbin $1,000 scholarship toward college tuition is awarded annually and is administered by the Jewish Community Foundation of New Mexico (JCF). Eligibility: open to all Albuquerque-area high school seniors who (1) have demonstrated achievements or ongoing volunteer work supporting human rights and human dignity, and (2) will be enrolling in an accredited nonprofit college or university in the fall. There are no restrictions on eligibility based on race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or disability status. DUE DATE TBA: Kirtland Federal Credit Union Club F.I.T. scholarships (total of 3: $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000). Seniors only; must be a member, child, or grandchild of a member in good standing with Kirtland Federal Credit Union. Must be accepted to an accredited 2- or 4-year institution and attending college for the first time. Scholarship must be used exclusively to pay the tuition or associated costs of named winner only at an accredited 2- or 4- year institution.
